Product design is where SaaS conversion quietly gets decided. The marketing site earns the signup; onboarding, empty states, permissions and upgrade prompts decide whether that signup becomes a paying, retained customer. Agencies that only design marketing pages cannot help with the second half.
The studios below range from complex-B2B specialists comfortable in payroll, wealth management and logistics workflows, through product studios that ship MVPs for early-stage founders, to design system practices working inside large organisations. A growing number now have real AI UX experience — designing agent interfaces, generative UI and AI-assisted workflows — which is worth probing rather than taking at face value.
Most studios work hourly or on a monthly rate for a dedicated team. Discrete projects such as a UX audit or a design sprint often run a few thousand dollars to low five figures; an embedded designer or small pod typically runs from around $10,000 a month upward, depending on seniority and region.
It is a structured review of your existing product against usability heuristics, analytics and session data, producing a prioritised list of problems and recommendations. It is a low-risk way to test a working relationship before committing to a larger engagement, and it usually surfaces a few fixes worth shipping immediately.
An agency buys you a senior multidisciplinary team immediately and is the better answer for a defined push — a redesign, an MVP, a design system build. An in-house designer is better once the work is continuous and product knowledge compounds. Many teams do both: an agency establishes the system, an in-house hire runs it.
