Product design is where SaaS conversion quietly gets decided. The marketing site earns the signup; onboarding, empty states, permissions and upgrade prompts decide whether that signup becomes a paying, retained customer. Agencies that only design marketing pages cannot help with the second half.

The studios below range from complex-B2B specialists comfortable in payroll, wealth management and logistics workflows, through product studios that ship MVPs for early-stage founders, to design system practices working inside large organisations. A growing number now have real AI UX experience — designing agent interfaces, generative UI and AI-assisted workflows — which is worth probing rather than taking at face value.

What to check before you hire

  • Ask to meet the designer, not the agency. The strongest studios will walk you through the specific person's portfolio on the first call and explain their reasoning on past problems.
  • Complexity is a specialism. A team whose portfolio is consumer apps and marketing sites will struggle with a multi-role permissions model. Match the portfolio to your problem shape.
  • Design systems need adoption, not just architecture. The failure mode is a beautiful system nobody uses. Ask how they handle rollout, documentation and training.
  • Check whether they can build. Some of these studios ship production code; others hand over Figma. Both are valid, but the difference changes what you need internally.
